Siuslaw School District Special Education Department, will be destroying Special Education records of:  Students whose special education services with Siuslaw School District ended prior to 6/15/2016 and who were born before 8/31/2000.  (Records are required to be retained until the student reaches age 21 or 5 years after the conclusion of Special Ed services, whichever is longer as per OAR 166-400-0060)  Students/Parents preferring to keep their records may arrange to pick them up by calling the Special Programs Department office at 541-997-2514 ext. 5444.  An individual 18 years of age or older, unless adjudicated, must request his/her own records.  Proper identification is required.  Above records will be destroyed after December 1, 2021.

The Siuslaw School District has enrolled in the OHA/UO COVID-19 Screening Testing Program this year.  This is an optional, weekly saliva test, via a take-home test kit.  Please review this info/registration-flyer for more information.
The VFW's Patriot's Pen is a nationwide essay contest for youth which gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme.  This year's theme is "How Can I Be a Good American?"    National winners can earn at least $500 and up to $5,000!  Essays need to be between 300-400 words, written by the student and typed (no graphics or color).  Essays are due no later than October 31st, 2021.  Please read the rules of the essay before submitting.  Please encourage your student to participate in this great opportunity!

Tomorrow morning, each of the Siuslaw schools will take a moment to remember the tragedy of September 11, 2001.  The elementary and middle schools will conduct their tributes around 8:40am in the morning, and the high school tribute will be nearer 10:00am.  There will be a reading over the intercom, in conjunction with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

NEWS RELEASE, September 1, 2021: The State of Oregon received approval from the federal government to expand the Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) program and provide an additional $167 million in food assistance to approximately 430,000 children in Oregon. Eligibility for additional P-EBT food assistance  Students eligible to receive P-EBT benefits for the 2020 - 2021 school year will receive additional P-EBT food assistance for the summer of 2021. There is no need to apply. Children age six or younger whose families participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program will receive P-EBT food assistance for the summer of 2021. There is no need to apply. If your child has not applied and been approved for free or reduced price meals at school, you can still receive P-EBT food assistance for the summer if you apply online at the Oregon Department of Education website by September 4.
Safe Shelter for Siuslaw Students has lots of clothes left of various sizes from yesterday and will be extending the event at the Siuslaw Middle School gym off the basketball courts from 3 to 6 p.m.
Recent concerns expressed by members of the public about late-breaking state directives have not gone unheard by the school board. The meeting scheduled for September 1, 2021, is postponed until a later date and time. Please be assured that the Siuslaw School Board of Directors will read and review all public commentary submitted by parents and patrons to 97j@siuslaw.k12.or.us.
