The Siuslaw Track and Field is hosting their First Annual Florence Street Vault event for high school pole vaulters on Wednesday, March 23 at noon on Bay Street between Maple and Laurel streets. All Latino/a-identifying high school students are invited to the 18th annual Raices Unidas Youth Conference which will be held virtually on Friday, April 15 from 12 to 2 p.m. Students can register by visiting tinyurl.com/VirtualRUYC. This event will consist of a keynote speaker, a first-generation student panel, and activities for students to embrace a community of Latinx peers across the State of Oregon. Governor Brown announced that the local control date for masking in public schools is advancing once again; today’s announcement moves up the local control to March 12, 2022.

We are pleased to report that our attendance numbers have improved to the level where we can return back to school on our regular bell schedule. The return to the regular schedule affects middle and high school only; there is no change in the elementary schedule.  Beginning Monday, March 7, the middle school will return to an 8:25 a.m. start time and the high school will return to an 8:15 a.m. start time.

Siuslaw School District has three Budget Committee positions open for the school board budget process.  Positions 1, 5 and 7 are open for appointment by the school board. Apply by February 8, 2022 by 4:00PM. The Budget Committee includes the Board of Directors and seven volunteer citizens who are appointed to serve 3-year terms. Committee members must be registered voters living within the boundaries of the Siuslaw School District, and cannot be employees, officers, or agents of the district. The Oregon Health Authority has set final end dates for indoor mask mandates in Oregon - March 31, 2022.   Until then, all current mask and mitigation protocols will remain in place as the changes from the state are incorporated into new protocols after Spring Break.

Starting Monday, February 7, students will begin classes at 9:10 at the middle school and 9:00 at the high school. Each school day will end at the regularly scheduled time. Bus transportation will remain the same and will arrive to school quite a bit earlier than when class begins. Supervision will be provided and opportunities for homework help, exercise, and a nutritious breakfast are also available. The elementary school schedule remains unchanged.
