Seniors and Families, Hello, I am happy to share that we have finally been given some direction from the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) on what we can do for graduations. This was released on Thursday, April 30th. I wanted to wait to make a decision in hopes that we would be able to have a normal, or close to, graduation. I will be meeting with a group of our senior students on Tuesday, May 5th to start solidifying plans. Our tentative plan will be for an outdoor ceremony at the football stadium on June 5th. We will begin to work out the details to accommodate students, families, community and maintaining the social distancing guidelines. As we have more to share, we will share with you and the community. Sincerely, Kerri Tatum ODE's Guidance can be viewed here: https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/ORED/2020/04/30/file_attachments/1439877/ODE%20OHA%20Guidance%20on%202020%20Graduation%20and%20Moving%20Up%20Ceremonies.pdf

HELLO SIUSLAW STUDENTS!!! This week is Dude, Be Nice Week and we are doing a couple things to help spread the nice :) Throughout the week: 1. Virtual High Fives (Brady Bunch style so please turn on your videos during chats for a second) 2. Chalk art and positive messages in driveways and around town. We plan on leaving a box of chalk at all 3 schools for people to come grab a couple as soon as we know it won't be raining for a couple days (Probably not until Wednesday) 3&4. Social media shoutouts to people about being kind & general positive messages using hashtag #SiuslawBeNice 5. Virtual Bingo cards for everyone to fill out and submit for a prize when completed. I have attached a Bingo Card and you need to get a black out to win.

Dear Siuslaw High School Families, We are a week into our distance learning and though there have been some hiccups, it is nice to see teachers and students reconnecting. Please encourage your students to check in to each class every day. Even if students are not officially meeting, there is generally new information on teachers’ pages on a daily basis. Progress reports for semester 2 will be attached to ParentVUE and StudentVUE later today. We will not be sending them out in the mail. Final grades for semester 2, will be graded with a Pass “P” or Incomplete “I”. Please encourage your student to continue to work towards completion of all of their classes. It is extremely important that we continue to progress towards completing graduation requirements. Many people have asked about graduation and at this point we do not have an answer. Our greatest hope is that social distancing measures will be lessened by June and we will be able to honor the class of 2020 with an official graduation ceremony. In the event that is not possible, we are working on some contingency plans and will make a decision in early May. Thank you for your patience and we want to continue to reassure you that we will make sure we do something special for this class to acknowledge their achievement. Finally, we just want to ask you to take care of yourself and your kids during these unprecedented times. If you need help, please reach out. Our counselors and the administrators are here to help in any way we can. We miss your students and want to continue to partner with you during this school closure. Please reach out if we can be of assistance. Sincerely, Kerri Tatum
