Career Pathways are designed to give students an organized list of courses to help them explore certain career strands.

ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION

There is a documented national and local shortage of workers who can work in the skilled trades. Student will understand both the practical and career skills needed to enter the workplace prepared and confident, as they will have hands-on opportunities to learn and use these skills.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Employment of automotive service technicians and mechanics is projected to show little or no change from 2018 to 2028.  The number of vehicles in use is expected to continue to rise. More entry-level service technicians will be needed to perform basic maintenance and repair, such as replacing brake pads and changing oil, on these vehicles.

CULINARY ARTS

Employment of food preparation and serving related occupations is projected to grow 11 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations, a gain of about 1.5 million jobs. Population and income growth are expected to result in greater consumer demand for food at a variety of dining places, including restaurants and grocery stores.

HEALTH SERVICES

This cluster is one of the most popular choices, with more than 35% of all CTE students pursuing health care careers.  Employment of healthcare occupations is projected to grow 14 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations, adding about 1.9 million new jobs. Healthcare occupations are projected to add more jobs than any of the other occupational groups. This projected growth is mainly due to an aging population, leading to greater demand for healthcare services.

INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY

Employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 12 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. These occupations are projected to add about 546,200 new jobs. Demand for these workers will stem from greater emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data, and information security.  The median annual wage for computer and information technology occupations was $86,320 in May 2018, which was higher than the median annual wage for all occupations of $38,640.
