​The Center for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect at the University of Oregon has launched a series of youth focus groups across Lane County. They want to hear about the community from the youth perspective to learn how to best prevent child maltreatment. They are hosting a focus group for Florence area youth, AGE 14 TO 19 this Wednesday, November 1 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Siuslaw Public Library. They will also be hosting several virtual, identity-based focus groups for Black, Indigenous, Latine, LGBTQ+, and Asian American/Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American teens. Though we will not be asking youth to share any specifics about their own negative experiences, we especially want to hear from youth that may have experienced more barriers than others. All youth, age 14-19 are welcome to participate and will receive $37.50 for 1.5 hours of their time. Youth have the option to participate in informational interviews if transportation, technology or scheduling is a barrier to focus group attendance. While youth are encouraged to RSVP beforehand, they can also accommodate drop-ins.
