A student suspect has been identified by authorities in the bomb threat message found at Siuslaw MS on Monday afternoon.  As per local school board policy the individual is suspended from school, pending a threat assessment and a disciplinary hearing that may result in expulsion. Additional information is still being reviewed and the school district is cooperating with law enforcement in all aspects of the investigation.

Our Siuslaw Boys & Girls Cross Country Teams took first place at today's state meet and are dual State Champions! The teams will be returning to Florence this afternoon about 4 p.m. The bus will roll through Old Town on Bay Street then up Highway 101 to Siuslaw High School. Supporters can meet at the high school or anywhere else along the route. Let's get a big crowd to welcome back the STATE CHAMPS!
This is a quick follow-up to yesterday's message on the pediatric vaccination clinics for students and children ages 5 to 11 years old.  The November 20th event at Siuslaw Middle School will be from 12 to 4 PM.
Siuslaw will be hosting a pediatric (ages 5 to 11) vaccine clinic on November 20th at Siuslaw Middle School - registration can be made through the Lane County Public Health website.  A follow-up clinic for second doses will be scheduled for three weeks later.
A COVID-19 vaccination event is being held at Siuslaw Middle School on Saturday, October 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. All individuals in Oregon ages 12+ are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Doses available include the first and second doses of Pfizer and Moderna and the single dose Johnson and Johnson. Though walk-ins are welcome, appointments are available at www.lanecounty.org/vaxclinics.
On Monday, October 11 (second Monday in October) we celebrate the history and contributions of Native Americans on Indigenous Peoples' Day. Native people continue to fight to maintain the integrity and viability of indigenous societies. American Indian history is one of cultural persistence, creative adaptation, renewal, and resilience. It is not too late to register for at-home Covid testing for students. All students registered by Sunday, October 10 will have their testing supplies delivered to their school on Wednesday, October 13 for the upcoming weeks. Lane African American Black Student Success is holding their first group meeting virtually (tinyurl.com/LaneBlackStudentParentNight) on Tuesday, October 19 from 6 to 7 p.m. They want to hear from parents about what they want and need from the Lane African American Black Student Success Plan for the 2021-2022 school year. The Siuslaw School District has enrolled in the OHA/UO COVID-19 Screening Testing Program this year.  This is an optional, weekly saliva test, via a take-home test kit.  Please review this info/registration-flyer for more information.
Siuslaw School District is currently seeking a board member to fill position 1 of the Siuslaw School Board. The appointee will serve until June 30, 2023. Tomorrow morning, each of the Siuslaw schools will take a moment to remember the tragedy of September 11, 2001.  The elementary and middle schools will conduct their tributes around 8:40am in the morning, and the high school tribute will be nearer 10:00am.  There will be a reading over the intercom, in conjunction with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.
