​National School Counseling Week 2024 is being celebrated this week, February 5 through February 9. The focus of this special week is to recognize how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books  empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.  Here’s what you need to know about the big event, which will take place February 26 through February 29 in our library.   Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday: 4 to 8 p.m. with FREE hot hog dinner: 5 to 7 p.m. Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy. ​There is no school for students on Friday, February 2 for Teacher Grading Day at our Siuslaw schools.   The second semester (third quarter) begins Monday, February 5.
​Just a reminder that tomorrow, Friday, January 26, there is no school for students for all Siuslaw schools as it is a Curriculum and Instruction Day for staff.
UPDATE: There has been an accident south of the bridge, closing Highway 101. Siuslaw schools will be on a 3-hour delay (late start). This road closure impacts multiple bus routes and the ability for staff and students to reach school.
​On Wednesday, January 24, at 6:30 p.m., we will be hosting a Vape Abuse Prevention Meeting about the vaping issues in Siuslaw Schools.  Officials from Lane County Public Health will be on hand to discuss effective strategies to prevent youth from vaping. The meeting will be in the Middle School Commons. All are welcome to attend this informational meeting.
There is no school on Monday, January 15, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  School and district operations will resume Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
Our board chair is Brian Lacouture, our vice chair is Maureen Miltenberger. Our directors are John Barnett, Tamara Cole, Josh Haberly, Dianna Pimlott, and Kady Sneddon. Our student representatives to the school board are Arelin Gates, Storm Kurth, Riley Olson, and Cort Waggoner. Siuslaw School District is making a special effort during January to show appreciation for our school board members and our student representatives to the school board; however, we recognize their contributions reflect a year-round effort on their part. They are dedicated individuals who are committed to improving student achievement and to fighting for the best for all of our students.
Don’t miss out on a chance to have Breakfast with Santa, sponsored by the Florence Community PTA, on Saturday, December 9 from 9 to 11 a.m.  at Cross Road Church. Not only will there be breakfast (pancakes, sausage, and hot cocoa) but also a bake sale and a basket raffle! The cost is $2 per person and donations will also be accepted for the Food Backpack for Kids program. Come get your picture taken, a full belly, and a gift for a friend!   Come meet Santa and have fun for the whole family!

The Kiwanis Club of Florence is sponsoring the Annual Florence Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 23 from noon to 2 p.m. This free event is hosted by the Florence Elks Lodge BPOE #1858 at 1686 12th Street. Cash donations are happily accepted (however, not required) along with dry/canned food donations for the local Food Shares. ​Siuslaw Elementary School is celebrating Red Ribbon Week Monday, October 30 through Thursday, November 2.  The theme for the week is Say "Yes!" to your health.   For the spirit week activities, please do not wear masks or face paint.   Monday, October 30: Wear Red Day. Let's kick off Red Ribbon Week by wearing something red!  Tuesday, October 31: Storybook Character Day. Dress up as your favorite storybook character.  Wednesday, November 1: Hat Day. Wear your favorite festive hat.  Thursday, November 2: Sport & Spirit Day. Show your school pride and wear Viking gear or wear something to represent your favorite sports team!

​The "Color the Coast for Autism" Annual Autism Walk is Saturday, September 30 at Miller Park in Florence, Oregon. The fun starts at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 11 a.m.  The walk is a fully accessible 1/2-mile loop, plus there will be community resource exhibitors, a bounce house, characters in costume, crafts, and more! Calling all kindergarten students! ​  Please come by our elementary office to register no later than Wednesday, August 30. This has to be done in person at the school.  For parents who filled out the white intent to register form at Kindergarten Round-Up, this did not register your student for school.   If you have any questions, please call 541-997-2514.
