The Twilight Learning Center (TLC) is back for this year.  This exciting after-school program is being offered through Siuslaw Schools and the Boys and Girls Club.  Twilight is a team of staff, parents, and children who are dedicated to providing academic assistance, enrichment activities, and recreational experiences, in safe and productive environments, for children in grades K-12.  Federal funding for this program is through a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.

Twilight starts right after school in the elementary, middle, and high schools and ends at 6:00 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, and at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, throughout the school year.   Students will be given a USDA meal, academic tutoring/teaching, and the opportunity to do fun activities.  There will be school buses to transport children home after the program.

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Lane County will provide the enrichment activities for Twilight at each school site.  An example of enrichment activities might include but are not limited to:

* Painting and drawing                                      * Music

* Nutritional education/cooking                            * Art

* Outside/gym play                                          * Games and Sports

* Nature and science                                        * Skits and Drama

* Theme Projects                                            * Special Events

* Guest Speakers                                            * Field Trips

Academic tutoring and teaching will focus mostly on math and language arts but students are welcome to bring any school work with which they need assistance.  Twilight students in upper elementary, middle and high school will have access to on-line course work as needed to enhance skill development.  There will be certified teachers, educational assistants, and volunteers working in each building to help students.

In the elementary school, Twilight will operate in conjunction with Indian Education and Lynn Anderson, the Indian Education Project Director, will serve as the elementary Site Coordinator, so students can attend both programs.

Registration forms are available at your school or if you would like to have one mailed to you or have other questions, please contact Cindy Allen at callen@siuslaw.k12.or.us.
